MATIC DAPPS SPOTLIGHT WITH UBONG EPHRAIM - CARTESI
Hello guys, Ubong Ephraim here and welcome to another episode of Matic DApp spotlight with Ubong Ephraim. On this series I highlight DAPPS implemented on the Matic Network. DAPPS which choose Matic Network to enable them scale and also provide faster transactions for their users.
And today we'll be talking about Cartesi, the Blockchain operating system using Linux. Before getting into Cartesi, I would begin by giving a brief overview of Matic Network.
Matic network is a blockchain solution that provides scalable, secure and instant Ethereum transactions using Plasma side chains and a Proof-of-Stake network. Matic Network was created to solve the problem of scalability associated with most blockchains and also accelerate transaction speeds.
When developers seek to deploy their solutions using blockchain technology, speed and scalability are two utmost features they look out for. Matic Network solves these problems very well while adding additional features such as a smooth user experience and security.
DAPPS stand for “Decentralized Applications”. They are web applications developed with blockchain architecture. Their usecases range from business and finance to utility, gaming and technology solutions. DAPP developers need to implement upon a blockchain architecture with an efficient speed to enable it’s users have a fluid and smooth experience. Hence DAPP developers look to blockchain solutions with proven high throughput and high TPS( Transaction speed per second).
Matic Network is a great blockchain solution to DAPP developers as it solves this problem of scalability and speed. Infact, over 30 DAPPS are currently deployed on the Matic Network.
On today’s part of the series, we’d be looking at Cartesi, a bridge between Linux and blockchain.
Cartesi is a blockchain operating system used to build scalable DApps using a fully-fledged Linux operating system and mainstream software stacks. It enables users run complex computations off-chain, free from blockchain limitations and fees, while retaining decentralization and security. Cartesi is unique in the sense that it allows decentralized applications to be run on Linux in a way that’s verifiable by the blockchain. Complex processing can be executed off-chain free from blockchains’ computational limits and corresponding fees. Cartesi makes DApps significantly more powerful, cost-effective, easier to develop, and portable. It brings mainstream productivity to developers and a satisfying experience to users.
Cartesi offers so many reasons to build on it. They include :
Intensive computations can be performed off-chain while retaining the security guarantees of the blockchain.
DApp logic is built on a real operating system utilizing the thousands of open-source software components available for Linux.
Easy to build on Cartesi
Developers can use familiar software stacks and popular standards to create DApps.
Consensus is securely reached on-chain. No reputation protocol, no TEE, or central servers on the cloud..
Cartesi will make DApps portable across the most important public blockchains that support smart contracts.
DApp state can be kept private among application participants.
Cartesi’s usecases span from DeFi, gaming, machine learning, future of automation to research and logistics. Cartesi is portable across multiple blockchains.
Cartesi entered a strategic partnership with Matic Network to enable greater responsiveness, faster transaction processing and lower transaction fees for DApps created on Cartesi. This was done in accordance to the aim to provide a seamless user and developer experience to its users. One of its Dapps named Creepts DApp was successfully tested on Matic’s testnet. Matic will also be exploring using Cartesi for their Plasma exits.
